Thanks, Ruth, great question. My husband has picked up extra income grading papers and I very occasionally take a small freelance assignment. Writing for Wealthtender will be one of those, and I can manage a couple of stories a month. I also do survey-taking and micro-tasking. I get a little income from Medium for these columns, too (between $5 and $15 a month total, so fun but not really too impactful). It’s my hope to scale up over time and earn much more from blogging in, say, two or three years.
The issue right now is hours in the day for us, and we really need to do a big, sustained lift of income if we want to do more than keep up.
In the past (as that article I linked describes), I was an Air BnB host, rented out my parking space, and did a number of things like that. I’ve been considering dogwalking. Again, though, I’ve been running up against stamina issues; and it means an actual second job won’t work for me. I’m up at 5 to make the commute to work, and usually home around 7. Doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room! But I admire the hustle and definitely think it’s an important tool in the toolkit.
